Welcome to the Sumner High School Principal's Corner for Students in Grades 10-12

    Welcome Back Bulldog Family!

My name is Dr. Michael D. Triplett, and it’s my honor to serve as Principal of the Charles Sumner High School. Hopefully your summer has been spent enjoying your families, resting and vacationing to revive yourselves. A new school year presents opportunities for various beginnings – new/old classes, new/old faces and new materials.

As leader of Sumner, I need and rely on the support of ALL stakeholders: students, families, staff, community and faith-based partnerships to ensure that we maintain a safe, engaging and high-quality learning environment for all students, as well as a safe and welcoming environment of partnership for parents and community.

This year, we will focus on processes that spur continual advancement: evaluating what we have, determining what we can do to improve, and identifying what we need to make those improvements.

I am committed to restoring, strengthening and maintaining the Bulldog Pride and Legacy of Excellence that began 140-plus years ago!

I look forward to meeting you soon!

    Dr. Michael Triplett, Principal

    Mr. McNeil

    Mr. Christopher McNeil

Principal Christopher McNeil grew up in a small town called Centreville, located right outside of East St. Louis, Illinois. Raised by his mother along with two older sisters, Mr. McNeil learned certain survival techniques that would get him through some very difficult times in life. His freshman year, Mr. McNeil and his family relocated to North St. Louis County. Being the motivated go-getter that he is, he decided to make the most of his education at Riverview Gardens Sr. High School. There were many late nights and early mornings, and though he faced many challenges with reading and writing, he pushed through and excelled – graduating from high school and gaining a scholarship to Alabama A&M (home of the Bulldogs). An opportunity that he fought and prayed hard for.

Mr. McNeil did obtain a Bachelor of Marketing Degree from A & M. He was able to make some remarkable moves during his reign in the marketing field. He definitely made a name for himself and dominated the marketing world, however, he eventually came to the realization that education was his passion after crossing paths with St. Louis Public Schools. Working closely with the staff and students, he finally felt at home.

Mr. McNeil returned to school to gain a Master’s in Education. His first teaching opportunity was at Roosevelt High School teaching business education classes. Later he was promoted to Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program Specialist. In that role he supported Business, Marketing, and Information Technology programs at the high school level. Wanting to continue on this path, Mr. McNeil returned to school to also add an Education Specialist Degree. From there he went on to be the Assistant Principal at Riverview Gardens School District.

Excited to return where his love for education began, Mr. McNeil is humbled by this amazing opportunity to serve in such a historic school. The very school his own grandmother, Alma Earlene Cherry, graduated from in 1938 (her graduation photo is below). His goal is to uphold the rich legacy of Sumner High School while charging the new generation “bulldogs” with the responsibility of upholding and continuing to build on an already strongly mounted foundation.

Announcements

  • MESSAGE FROM SUPERINTENDENT DR. KELVIN ADAMS

    April 20, 2017

    Dear Families,

Saint Louis Public Schools was recently notified that one of our vendor companies, Schoolzilla PBC, experienced an information security incident earlier this month that affected many of their customers, including our district. Schoolzilla immediately fixed the issue and informed us. We have no reason to believe that the incident will impact students or their information, and you do not need to take any action.

The information included basic student information but did NOT include social security numbers (SSNs). In keeping with FERPA guidelines, the District does not maintain student SSNs.

We want to assure you that we are taking this incident very seriously and have put measures in place to limit the type of data shared with such vendors in the future.

If you have further questions, contact Colette Owens, Director of Academic Strategy and Special Projects at SLPS: colette.owens@slps.org or 314-345-4570, visit schoolzilla.com/blog or reach out directly to the Schoolzilla team at security@schoolzilla.com.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Kelvin R. Adams
    Superintendent
